Homeschooling is such an adventure– I’m glad you’re thinking about it. My four boys have all graduated now, and I’m so thankful for the time we had together as we homeschooled from pre-school through high school, and even into college. We all learned a lot in the process, and I’m sure you will too!Janice Campbell, Writer, Speaker, Director at NAIWE.com
Grab A Copy Click here
I’ve written many articles and a few books over the last couple of decades. You’ll find those here, as well as resources for home- and family-centered living with a special emphasis on writing, high school literature, and homeschooling through high school and beyond, with topics including non-traditional college and home business.

If you are thinking about doing college non-traditionally (early college, accelerated college, distance learning, or late college), the Doing College Your Way page offers information on on distance learning and college-level exams to get you started.

And now, Get a Jump Start on College! A Practical Guide for Teens will help your teen earn college credit in high school.

It’s available as an instantly downloadable e-book. It is also available as a print book if you prefer. If you’d like to help your teen get a jump start on life, this is a book you need.
Grab A Copy Click here
Teaching high school literature can be a joy! Excellence in Literature is a classics-focused high school English curriculum that is designed in easy-to-study units. Each unit presents a full-length classic novel, poem, or play, and leads the student into a research path that includes the art, music, literary, and historical context of the work being studied.

There is a week-by-week assignment schedule for each unit, and most context resources are available at your local library or online. This high school English curriculum is designed to be completed in grades 8-12, but is very flexible, so you can jump in at any level.

The curriculum is available as individual print books, e-books, or as a complete curriculum with all five levels in a big binder so that you can customize your high school English class. The five levels are Introduction to Literature, Literature and Composition, American Literature, British Literature, and World Literature.
Grab A Copy Click here

Childrens Education

The first stages of education your child will receive will be Primary and Secondary, these are the years between ages 5 and 16, however, these years may soon be subject to change, by the year 2015, plans are in place to make primary and secondary school compulsory up to the age of 18. The school year tends to begin on the 1st of September, or the next week day available if the 1st falls on a weekend. You typically have two choices for education systems, one is ‘state funded’ and the other is ‘private independent’ schooling. State funded is as it sounds, it’s funded by the state so completely free for the parent, small charges may apply for extracurricular activities your child may wish to be involved in such as swimming, theatre visits and other types of field trips. Private schooling requires payment from the parents and can cost anything from £2500 to £30000 annually; some private schools are single sex, however nowadays most private schools will cater for both sexes.

Whether you choose to go private or state funded, the curriculum is generally the same with some variation on what is taught.

Subjects are generally the same across the board, with schools teaching Art & Design, Citizenship, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Information and Communication Technology, Modern Foreign Languages, Music, Physical Education and Religious Studies, including of course the 3 main subjects – English, Maths and Science, which must be taken every year until the students leave.

Once this section of education has been completed, students may then choose to go into further educations. Once the student has taken their GCSE examinations, they may be eligible to move on to college or sixth form (providing they gain the required results). This stage, like Primary and Secondary, can be state funded or independent.

During these years, students may learn about other subjects not typically taught in schools, such as Media Studies, Psychology, Law, Theatre Studies and a wide variety of other topics. Going to college or sixth form allows students to gain more advanced qualifications, allowing them into more complex jobs, or simply giving them the grades they need to transition into higher education once their 2 year course has been completed.

Educational Frenzy!!!
Having arrived at the close of the first quarter of the new school year and having completed fall conferences, I find there is not even the briefest pause in the frenzied push to bring all students to my states specified level of reading achievement as evidenced by a specified range of scores on my districts specified assessment. This frenzy continues on as though all children develop neurologically at a specified rate, as though all children mature physically and emotionally at a specified rate, as though their homes, environments, diets, bedtimes, exercise, and life stressors all align with a specified uniformity. It would appear as though a specified time is spent, each evening, reading or being read to by all children in all homes, regardless of all the diversity of cultural and family norms today. Even more ludicrous, it would appear that all time spent by all children in front of all forms of electronic toys and devices, including television and play-stations, is specified including content and duration of time.

The momentum of this frenzy is being maintained and fueled, at least in my world, under the umbrella of the RTI process (Response to Intervention) a procedure of progress monitoring come of age with the passage of IDEA 2004. The constant assessment and data analysis that accompanies this progress monitoring under this RTI paradigm shift is wearing me out, and my peers as well. I find myself caught in a quandary of when and how to carry out formal and informal assessment of benchmarks and progress monitoring during the instructional day. This data, once collected, must be analyzed aside from the demands and rigors of delivering good instruction and mandated curriculum which extend long beyond a reasonable workday. In addition, the reporting and regurgitating of this data takes place before or after the workday with the preparation thereof taking place outside of the workday as well. Those of us who are caught up in this new paradigm know that all these intrusive added variables come at a sacrifice of our energies, time, and our abilities to deliver good instruction and to give the best of ourselves as educators to our students. It has not been specified to us as yet, however, just how to achieve these impossible demands and be good at what we are suppose to be doing, which is to teach to the ends that children learn!

I am discovering, however, that there are some very talented individuals who are very aware of the struggles of educators, like me, desperately trying to make sense of all of this frenzied madness. One such individual is Diane Ravitch, former Assistant Secretary of Education under the first president Bush and a nationally recognized scholar and historian of education. Ms. Ravitch has reversed her stance on issues such as standardized testing, school choice and the No Child Left Behind Act as noted in an article posted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on March 5, 2010, authored by Maureen Downey a longtime reporter for the AJC, http://blogs.ajc.com/get-schooled-blog/2010/03/05/diane-ravitch-education-has-become-search-and-destroy-mission-and-teachers-are-the-targets/. These individuals are also intensely dedicated to the education and the well being of our nations youth as well.

So, as I take this moment to pause at the close of this first quarter of the new school year, this article and the voices it represents, gives me hope in knowing that there are others out there working to make sense of this madness and moving forward toward rational resolutions as well.

Distance Education

Education is very important for an individual. In recent times, government has raised the banner high to spread education, even to remotest areas of the county. There are many educational books and magazines, which discuss various courses available for the youth and prospective career options. Even the internet is full of education articles and news regarding various courses available and the esteemed colleges that provide these courses. With the change in educational structure, new methods of imparting education have barged in. it had been noticed that students who are financially unstable or have prior things to complete cannot attend regular classes and therefore miss on receiving education. Government has started distance-learning programmes for such students making their life easier.

Our government is very supportive in spreading awareness regarding education and conducting various seminars and meetings which discuss the use of education.

In these seminars, professionals of different fields read out education articles and how best education can be received. There are so many career counselors and institutes, which guide the students regarding career options to opt for that there, is no scope for students to go wrong. Education has spread out from the four -wall classrooms and has become a much bigger and dynamic structure. The days of rote learning are long gone. These are days of smart classes where students are taught through computerized mediums and are open and friendly with their teachers. Even in school level, students are taught about education news and achievements in the field of education so that they find it easier to choose a career later in life.

One of the major achievements in the education system is the introduction of distance learning courses. Distance learning courses are a blessing for all those who had to give up education to fulfill prior commitments. Many students have to do jobs in order to support their families others have some other problem and they cannot attend regular classes. Due to distance learning courses, they can now, enroll themselves in courses of their choice and attend weekend classes or just appear for the exams.

One needs to have the habit of reading articles about distance education or listening to education news in order to be updated with the educational field. One cannot achieve anything without efforts, even a student studying a distance-learning course has to put in same efforts as the student attending regular classes. There is no short cut to success.

If you want to know about distance education then read education news and education articles on jagranjosh.com

Alternative Education

Education is one of the most important aspects to enrich the lives of individuals, opening the doors of knowledge and eradicating ignorance. However education is acquired through various formats. The face to face learning format is also known as main stream education is one of the most popular formats opted by many schools around the globe. This format includes a large group of students attained by a teacher. This teacher is responsible of inculcating the knowledge in the students. However every student is gifted with different intellect and learning ability, thus this mainstream education format might now be suitable for everybody. Some students have different choices in terms of education, some might have different traits some are unable to attend the mainstream education. Thus such students opt for alternative education.

Alternative education many inculcate certain principles or ideologies from mainstream education, however alternative education is aimed at the niche classes.

Alternative education basically has three popular approaches, political approach, philosophical approach and scholarly approach.

Alternative education mostly has a class with a small group of 15 students who are goal oriented. The teachers and the other staff are more or less compassionate and experienced. The teachers are highly professionals and have personal touch with every student and thus know the capabilities of each child personally. The teachers adapt their teaching styles with the learning styles of the student that enables the student to comprehend the content matter properly. Alternative schools provide flexible school schedules that aid the learner to establish proper tempo for education.

Thus this format guarantees the success of each and every student.

Alternative education has been broadly categorized in four major forms namely, school choice, alternative school, independent school and home based education.

School Choice: School is regarded as one of the most basic aspect in education. Some students are having the caliber to educate themselves with niche learning. There are several public schools offer with alternate education. Thus public schools provide an open opportunity to almost every student in their community to opt for alternate education. The most popular school options include charter schools that are often the combination of private organization and public funding, magnet schools which includes students with peculiar skills like performing arts, music schools, etc

Alternative Schools: Alternative schools are specifically set up for the students with the choice of interest. Alternative schools offer wide range of philosophy and teaching methods. Though alternative schools are provided with financial aid from the government, many alternative schools seem to run independently. Alternative schools are basically established for certain students with disciplinary and social changes. Alternative schools are also established for separate section of students with physical or emotional disabilities.

Independent Schools: Independent school or private school, it is basically described as a learning centre which has greater amount of flexibility in staff selection and educational approach. Different forms of independent schools include free schools, schools based on experiential education, schools based on international curriculum, etc…

Home based Education: Home based schools are more or less practiced those who wish to opt out of the traditional education format. The reasons may vary from education, philosophy, religion, etc… These students do not follow regular curriculum approach on the contrary they depend on internet for their education.

Alternative education is acquring increasing importance in recent years. In its differnt forms, alternative deucation has made the knowledge and education process easier for the special section of students.

Fulfill your dreams of studying in UK through distance learning

Since its advent, degree distance learning has helped numerous people all over the world in fulfilling their dreams of higher studies. Working professionals who needed to pursue certain courses to get ahead in their career but could not do so due to work responsibilities have also benefited immensely from degree distance learning. You do not need to leave your job to pursue a certain degree or do not even have to relocate to study in universities of a particular country. Degree distance learning has made it all possible and that too at a much lesser cost than regular full time degree courses.

Suppose, it was your dream to study in UK but you cannot leave your job to pursue a full time course and cannot afford to relocate to study in UK either, whatever the reasons, finance or responsibilities. With degree distance learning you can actually study in UK without having to spend a fortune in relocating and staying there or without having to leave your job for the purpose.

All that you need to do is to fulfill this dream of yours to study in UK is find an institute or university in UK that offers degree distance learning in the subject of your choice and apply to them. If your application is accepted, you may have to sit for an entrance test and once you clear it you would be sent the materials to study from.

It is not that you would not get any help with your course materials if you go for degree distance learning to study in UK, many distance education institutes as well as universities provide the service of virtual classroom which allows you to consult expert professors in various subjects as well as with fellow students from all over the world. To avail this service all you need is an Internet connection. Hence you see to study in UK you do not need to have a huge saving as you dot even need to leave the comforts of your home. Do not stress about the job prospects after completing your study in UK through degree distance learning, since if done from a good and reputed institute or university, distance learning is as good and valuable in the job market as any regular course done from UK universities. Hence just set out for fulfilling your dreams without worrying about the future as it is well taken care of.

Roger Pointing here writes about the various degree distance learning and how they can prove beneficial in one’s career.

Home Study Courses

While we find our lives as being hectic there are some aspects which should not be shunted aside. One of these parts to our life is that of our education. For those of us who for various reasons are not able to go through with the traditional educational route there are some great alternatives. One such alternative which can be found is that of home study courses.

These courses will allow you to study the subjects that you want. You will find that due to the time limit which is placed on these courses that you can combine your personal, business and studying time. There is one item that you should keep in mind. While you will have the freedom to study when you want, you should keep the time limit in mind.

By adhering to this time limit you can ensure that not only do you have the needed time to oversee all aspects of your life, but you can complete your courses so that they improve over the course of your education.

With home study courses you can choose how you are going to shape your life.

You have the option of taking classes which are of interest to you. There are also classes that will provide you with the foundations for studying at a higher level than you are presently at.

Before you sign up for any of these courses you should know the reason why you are taking these classes. While this detail is not all that important it can help you to narrow you’re searching for classes down.

One of the best ways to find these courses is through the internet. By taking this route you will find that you can choose from classes which are located in different countries. This will give you the chance to see some cultural classes while at the same time you are choosing your educational classes.

When you take home study courses via the internet the global village term will make more sense. With the advancements which are constantly being made to technology you will find that the way you choose to take these classes is being changed. There are still some courses where snail mail – regular mail – can be used to send your assignments.
